If your bathroom is starting to feel less than fresh, here are six quick and simple projects to tackle over the course of a weekend.

1. Replace Hardware and Accessories

Are you still using the builder grade towel bar in your bathroom? Replacing old hardware is one of the easiest ways to update your bathroom when you’re short on time. To make this project easier, many retailers sell bath hardware in complete sets, most of which include a towel bar, towel ring, toilet paper holder and a robe hook. New bathroom hardware will bring style and sophistication to the space.

2. Install a New Vanity Fixture

No one likes to be left in the dark—or worse: in horrible lighting! With the amount of time we spend in front of the mirror in the morning, having the right amount of light is crucial. Installing a new vanity fixture will not only brighten the space but also help define the style of your bathroom.

3. Coordinate Finishes

Bathroom updates that happen in stages are likely to be victim of mismatched finishes. Whether it’s the faucet or the cabinet hardware or even the toilet tank lever—making sure your bathroom’s finishes are coordinated is a simple task that gives the space a cohesive look.

4. Apply a Fresh Coat of Paint

From prepping the room with painter’s tape and drop cloths to watching the paint dry, this project definitely clocks in as the most time-consuming of the bunch. But that’s not to say it can’t be done within the span of the weekend! You probably won’t need many cans of paint either, but it all depends on the size of the room. Once the paint dries and you see how much the room has changed, you’ll forget about the work that had to go into it.

5. Create a Focal Point

Our homes are a constant work in progress. For bathrooms that fit the bill, it’s important to create a focal point to distract from any incomplete projects. One way to do this is switch out your shower curtain. A vibrant pattern will breathe new life into your bathroom and add an accent just where you need it.

6. Fake More Shower Space

Ever wish you had just a few extra inches of space in the shower? With a curved shower curtain rod, you can make that dream a reality. Curved shower rods are fairly simple to install (just make sure you have a second set of hands). Within an afternoon, you’ll have added about 20% more elbow room to your shower.

All it takes for a completely updated bathroom is a little elbow grease and a weekend’s worth of work. If you make the most of those 48 hours, you’ll have a refreshed and relaxing new space to enjoy!
