Article Intro

Whether you’re a budding maximalist or just want to start small, here’s how you can incorporate more vibrant color choices into your home’s décor this year.

Light minimalist color palettes have been all the rage throughout the years in the home décor word. But move over, neutrals: bold colors are expected to take over in 2018.

Whether you’re a budding maximalist or just want to start small, here’s how you can incorporate more vibrant color choices into your home’s décor this year.

1. Paint an Accent Wall

Accent walls take the first spot on our list because if you really want to add vibrant color to your home, painting is the way to do it. Choose a wall with unique details or one that you’d be happy to make the focal point of a room.

Go big and bold with a painted accent wall. Choose a wall with unique architectural accents.

They’re a big commitment though, so if your taste changes every couple years, you might want to skip over this one.

2. Become an Art Curator

If you don’t want to paint your walls, cover them in art! Paintings, prints and other creative wall décor fills up a lot of empty space. Sometimes it’s just the finishing touch a room needs. Collecting art also an excellent conversation piece when you’re having guests over if you’re big on entertaining.

3. Add Small Accents

We’re talking rugs, pillows, and throw blankets. They’re easily interchangeable so you won’t have to worry about getting sick of a certain color or pattern. Jewel tones like emerald green or magenta make excellent accents to existing furniture.

Vibrant jewel tones make great accent pieces. Start small so you can switch them out if your style changes!

4. Make Old Furniture New

Reupholstering ottomans, chaises and other furniture is a great way to create an accent piece out of what you already have. You can take the do-it-yourself route or find a professional to help switch things up.

5. Tile it Up

Installing a tiled backsplash or flooring is one way to add not only bold color but bold patterns to your home. From aqua blue subway tile to decorative cement tiles, homeowners today have plenty of options to add rich hues with a side of personality.
